Where are you located?

I am located in Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast.

What experience do you have in the film/television industry?

I worked as a casting assistant for 10+ years in both Queensland and Sydney - auditioning actors in studios as well as working in the casting office - emailing briefs to agents, sorting through their submitted actors' headshots and selecting which actors would be best for the casting. It was during this time I learned what works for an actor's headshot and what doesn't. It's all about a clean, crisp headshot - good lighting, flattering angles, soft expressions, healthy-looking skin, goodmakeup/hair etc - but one that still looks like YOU (so no obviously-retouched skin or harsh lighting).

Do I need professional makeup?

Professional makeup is now required for all headshot sessions because of the big difference it makes to the final result. In the past I would often spend twice as long retouching someone with bad, "everyday" or unprofessional makeup (which unfortunately was most people who did not use a professional makeup artist). Cameras and lighting wash you out and also enhance shine if not the right (or enough) powder has been used. There's a reason why makeup artists are on professional photo and film shoots!

I have an "in-house" makeup artist or you are welcome to use a makeup artist of your choice. Additionally, if you know how to do your own professional shoot makeup (i.e no SPF, no harsh lines, plenty of powder to avoid shine) then you are more than welcome to do your own.

Do you offer any advice before the headshot session?

Yes - upon booking you will be sent a private link which goes over information regarding wardrobe and other tips and general advice.

How do I prepare for my session?

Aside from reading the private link I send you, it is important to have a chat with your agent (if you have one) and ask them what looks they're wanting and what roles you're best suited for. That way you can come prepared with the right hair, makeup and clothing options that reflect these type of characters. Alot of agents also have reference photos which will show you the kind of headshots they are wanting from their actors. Some agencies prefer more character shots with simple backgrounds, others prefer more natural shots shot outdoors in natural light.

I haven't got that many clothing options. What should I do?

Don't spend money on clothes for headshots. Borrow from friends or visit your local op shop. Op shops often have great pieces for headshots!

Can I bring a friend to my headshot session?

Yes, as long as they're not going to distract you and you feel comfortable and confident shooting in front of them then that's fine. Be sure to warn them that they will likely end up holding a reflector or light stand! Please keep it to one person only.

What time of day do you do your photoshoots?

For outdoor headshots, I love soft natural light, so prefer the afternoon light. If you prefer to shoot mornings or midday that is fine too. There are plenty of headshot pockets around that we can work with.

How do I secure my booking?

Full payment must be made to secure all bookings. Accepted payment methods include credit card, PayPal and bank deposit. This includes the $100 retainer which is non-refundable in the event of a late cancellation or no-show (the remainder will be refunded in those circumstances if rescheduling is not an option).

What if I need to reschedule?

If an illness or situation prevents your session from taking place, please reschedule at least 24 hours prior. The $100 retainer fee will not be refunded for no shows, late cancellations and failing to give adequate notice.

Please note that re-shoots will not be given for poor choices of clothing, make-up or hair related issues.

Do you have public liability insurance?

Yes, I am fully insured.

What happens after the photoshoot?

After your photoshoot you will be sent a private link of your gallery displaying all of your best photos (100+). Here you can make favourites lists and select which photos you want for retouching. You can also forward this link to others (such as your agent) so they can make their own favourites list to share with you.

How long will it take for me to receive my final retouched images?

Generally within 2 weeks - sometimes sooner or later depending on how many images have been selected for retouching. Quality retouching takes time and I prefer not to rush the process. If you need a headshot quickly for a submission, let me know and I should be able to retouch one for you to use while you wait for the rest.

How long have I got to select my photos?

Please choose the photos you want for retouching within 3 months.

There's something I don't like about myself. Can you change it in Photoshop?

I encourage people to accept and embrace themselves as they are, especially if you want to work on screen as an actor (there is no photoshopping in video!) -  but yes - if you have a specific request (and it is reasonable, doable and still looks natural) I am happy to do that for you.

Please note that an additional fee may be required if excessive editing/retouching is requested.

Can I have all of the unedited photos?

In short, no. The images represent me as a brand, and giving out unedited images takes away from that.

I can, however, give you a pdf contact sheet of all unedited photos upon request.

What format will I receive the photos in?

High-resolution jpegs (for printing) and medium-resolution jpegs (for online).

What else do you do?

When I'm not shooting and retouching headshots, I'm shooting and editing weddings, producing UFO documentaries (or trying to - no one said filmmaking was easy!), helping out with castings over at Miss Jane Casting and trying to find time to read and exercise!
